I understand CV flanges, but I don't get these. I was told that they reduce spinning weight, and I get that, but these don't have any bolt holes in them so I don't understand how they work with an axle. Are they cushions in there or is there just a three lobbed "spline" that fits into the "cup"???
Thanks |

there is basically 3 roller bearings that fit in a groove, they dont have bolt because they are held in via snap rings on the male stub axle attached to them...they work but are not ideal for a buggy, not enuff angular movement...

I have seen regualar CV's machined down to save weight if its that big of a deal. I too have heard that tripods are not angle monsters.
My understanding on the Tripods CV's is they are a cost effective joint for the maker. Its easier to make the three straight guides the tripods bearings ride in verses the round curved slots the balls of most "normal" CV's ride in. Even on mass automated equipment. Its a $$$ thing. At least I have been lead to believe that. Bill
