i have an r1 powered buggy and my chain is a 530 oring. the distance between the spockets center to center is about 7 1/2 inches. the chain gets pretty warm and has turned blue. will this continue to be an issue or you think it will hold up? i was kinda thinking of making a billet wheel with a bearing roller and making a longer chain. but i have limmited space and thats the only way i could get it to fit?

IMO ,NOPE,not a good idea. All that will do is increase the amount of friction at the pins due to the greatly increased arc of the serpentine chain route as the chain changes direction.

Krause chain - probably the way to go.
Use a lube that is designed for the chain you purchase - o-ring, non o-ring. They have different requirements. Try to find a dry lube or a wax type (helps avoid flinging and stuff sticking to it) and do the lubing after a quick run to get the chain warm - not blue, just warm to the touch. Spray liberally and as the chain cools it will draw the lube into the pin and roller areas.

Hey what's the deal using my signature? I have your same problem and I am waiting for a 4" bilge blower that I am going to direct at the chain the same way the Nascar boys use to cool their tire sidewalls or rotors and anything else that overheats so we will see what happens probably as early as this weekend |
