For 500hp fire breathing monsters, RPM 's box is incredbile, great product.
Not many RPM's in 500 HP and 2500# buggies.When I said heavy,high HP cars I meant 1500#'s and 250+ HP.

What conclusions have you drawn? Did you build and test the prototype?

He's still in the getting ready to build stage........ Weather permitting........

I still think a gearbox using Quickchange gears could be done cheap and easy.......

By quickchange do you mean spur gears with gear changes done a lot like the headstock of a lathe??

I know this can be done, but does fabr have a good point? Of course. This box is for the recreational user not a baja 1000 racer. I believe a box like this can be built and handle stock motorcycle power effectively.

Hymark had a decent idea a while back when he tried to make a good tranny. He just had two major flows. A bad case design and lord knows why he choose Ford Escort gears to use. Sure they were popular (as in a lot of them) but they were not know for thier quality.

Now if a person layed out a good box design and used VW gearbox gears that seems it would fare many times better. Modern VW trannies are dealing with huge power numbers in the tuners set (rice burner racers) and they are towing heavy cars (compared to most mini-midi buggies) around on asphalt with sticky tires. Plus if the diff was used it already is set up for German CV's. In no diff was wanted a simple locker could be made. Thats what I would think would be worth looking at for cheap parts that can take a pounding. Bill

Oh you mean spur/pinion with a shaft drive. I thought of this too in preliminary designs. A very good idea though.
