Default Subaru set up

Hey guys!
I've had experience's with sand rails in the past and dislike the VW set up because of it's rear weight bias. I'm new to this mini rail/buggie idea, I think it's a great idea!. this is just an idea I have. I enjoy good handeling in cars (ex: BMW's), which means I like 50/50 weight distrabution and a low center of gravity. You can move a Subaru engine to a mid-engine location in the rail and get better front to rear weight ratio, and a low COG (center of gravity).

I'm currently trying to design a small 2 seater buggie/rail with plenty of power and great handeling/off road capabilitys (travel/articulation). Also useing a suabru you can stip the car for usable parts (steering linkages, cv joints, transmission). I was looking as widening the chasie of a ST2 long travel off the bad land buggy web site to acomadate 2 people. I'd appricate some opinions on this

Default Welcome to the forum

Daisy,
Welcome to the forum.

Take some time to read the posts on this site and other sites too to get a feel for what typical mini rails are all about. In particular check out the link to Prosandminirails/Girard fabrication because a Subie has been used by one of his customers.

You might also look at http://atvracing1.com/tazcar.htm This company has a car that evolved from using two-stroke snowmobile engines to using Honda V-Tec engines.

There is some discussion on the web about what a mini rail is vs. midi vs. full size. Engine, tire and wheel combination, wheelbase, width and individual opinions and perceptions vary. For example some might think that mini cars are limited to motorcycle/snowmobile power while others focus on tire and wheel size and others on overall dimensions.

Opinions will undoubtebly vary on using suspension components from a stripped car, especially front end components. I lean toward the side that believes results will be very disappointing.

Good luck. We look forward to seeing where your project leads.
