Input shaft on the RPM box is just a keyed 1" diam shaft. It will take what ever you want to put on it.

Contact Jay Largo at Desert Dog Off Road[/url:hsti62ao] or Neil at ATV Racing[/url:hsti62ao]. Either of these places can get you the RPM box with what ever options you need.

Options include:
Output flange options - Type IV, 930, etc.
Input shaft length. Input shaft is 1" diam with with a keyway cut down the length of the shaft. - standard sled type setup, no need for splines.
The input shaft can also go all the way through the tranny and is splined on the end so you can add a tranny brake - Dan can supply the brake setup.
Do NOT use this as a brake for the car - it will NOT survive. - great for a parking brake, though.
I use mine as an alternator drive[/url:hsti62ao]. You can see the splined shaft in this pic:
[/url:hsti62ao]
More pix of the tranny can be found here[/url:hsti62ao]

Output shaft is available in a chromoly steel or 300M (go with the 300M)

Gear ratios available are 11:1, 10:1, 9:1, 8:1, 7.something:1, 6.something:1 and 4.6:1 (busa)

I have Dan's info, but I don't know if he'd be happy if I put it out on a public forum. I need to contact him fairly soon and when I do, I'll ask him if it's okay to do so.

Default Budget Auto-Lock Differential ?

I am about to build a medium-sized buggy for me and my son. (The WHOLE POINT is to do it cheaply and be as resourceful and creative as possible...might have pieces of a washing machine in it...who knows)

I WANT 4-wheel independant suspension and a limited-slip differential to make it more manueverable.

Looking to a single jack-axle to drive each wheel separately, using a FREEWHEELING SPROCKET for each wheel. This would allow both wheels to be driven, but allow the OUTSIDE wheel to turn faster during a turn...(freewheel faster than the jackshaft) like the back wheel of a bicycle. Basically an external, budget auto-locking differential.

I've scrubbed the web and can not find a Freewheeling or RATCHETING (1-way) sprocket/hub ANYWHERE (except for bicycle rear wheels and these are not heavy-duty enough) I did find one by Hilliard at:
http://www.hilliardcorp.com/view.html?id=ALD-2
but they said it would not hold up to the stress and opted out of giving me a price.

Any ideas other than buying a salvaged limited slip differential out of an ATV?

Welcome! ...but please don't hi-jack threads!

Have you looked at NSK GX series one-way clutches? They slip straight onto a keyed shaft and have a bolt flange.

Default Yes . . . Welcome

to the site! Yoy will find plenty of help here along with some good coaching.

Your topic will get more response by starting a new thread instead of having it buried in the middle of another thread. Give that a try and then see what happens!

Whoops! Is my slip showing? ops: I thought that 'Differential Options' was a good place to start since what I'm considering is basically a differential alternative.

Thanks for the responses, I'll check into the NSK GX series one-way clutches. Thanks for the tip, and I will start a separate thread (tried this on Buggynews.com and didn't really get any good leads). This place seems to be a little more promising.

Default Re: Differential Options

The Belmore rail gang has experience with subie and Nissan 300 ZX diffs. Sandaholic has the Nissan open diff in his car and it works great. Affordable for the diff and Tom could fill you in on required mods to accept 930 flanges. Contact Tom for details.
