Default Re: Differential Options

Just an old fart from Florence Oregon

Theres the link Gene was talking about. You can see how he used the Honda Tranny. Arrowhead used the manual tranny.

Gene suggested the Auto. Me and Magnum were talking about an auto in this setup. You gotta deal with the computer but Magnum said he had msot of that figured out.

IN theory the auto would be really cool. You put the Hayabusa in gear and let the clutch out. This would start spinning the Auto trannies Torque convertor. Little chance of stalling. As you revved it up it would be just like pressing on the gas in an automatic car and go.

You could shift the Hayabusa to a higher gear for more speed and still shift the auto tranny while on the fly for more speed or more power no sweat. Easier to shift than the manual setup IMO.

Only catch is is the Honda Auto strong enough? We know the manuals can take a beating.

Default Re: Differential Options

I really meant automobile transaxle but Nutz brings up a very interesting possiblity.

I know that the automatic transaxle in my V6 2000 Accord Coupe is weaker than subsequent versions with more horsepower. Mine is the 200 HP version and I remember reading that it can't really take any more.

Put that in a sand car or dirt machine where you need torque or where it is constantly getting jolted and it will probably fail. Just a feeling . . .

Yah the autos are not known to be as tough as there manual counter parts in most cars.

You would really want a healthy cooler on it. The far less weight it sees might make it survive but untill someone decides to be the Guinea pig we may never know.
