20180307_130647.jpgthread revival! so I had to put off the build but im back at the drawing board and have figured out a better way to achieve my 4wd buggy. first to address why i cant go with an rpm diff is because even if i turned it sideways to supply power to the front and rear differential i cant get the right gearing because the lowest gearing you can get from an rpm is 3.9:1 and the lowest differential i can find for my front and rear diffs is like 2.73. And when you combine those gear ratios its way too low of gearing to have fun with other than crawling. so im back to the differential being used as an fnr but im changing the concept so that there is only a sprocket and chain going to the driveshaft going to the front diff. all my differentials will be locking diffs. so lock the fnr diff and buggy goes forward. unlock the fnr diff and lock the pinion gear and buggy goes in reverse. simple and effective. gearing can be changed by sprocket change.

In your scenario, only the rear output would go into reverse. The front DS has the chain to it and will always go forward.

Correct. There will be a driveshaft disconnect to disengage the front diff for reverse and two wheel drive. Hopefully I don't need 4wd to reverse.

You know by saying that the first time you need to back up you will get stuck!

The front diff's on Rodeo's have a nice disconnect unit on them.
