Default Can a # 40 sprocket work with a 420 chain

I need to replace a couple #420 sprockets that have a 1" bore but I am having a hard time finding 420 sprockets. I can find all kinds of # 40 sprockets. My question is, can a # 40 sprocket work with a #420 chain ? If this works it would help out alot. Making it easier to find a couple of sprockets. I 'm looking for a # 40 with 13 teeth x 1" bore.

Thanks for any help,

Default Re: Can a 40 t sprocket work with a 420 chain

??? "40 t " means 40 teeth.. if the pitch of the sprocket is 420 then a 420 chain will work

I made a mistake my using 40 t for the sprocket The sprocket does not have 40 teeth. I should have said a # 40 sprocket with 13 teeth. I will edit my first post so I do not give the wrong idea of what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the heads up,

a #40 sprocket will not work with 420 chain. The sprocket is too thick

Notes on Sprockets and Chains

a #41 chain sprocket is narrower than the 40. Still 1/2" Pitch. 41 chain is 1/4" Wide between sidebars and #40 is 5/16". I only sell Industrial chains so I dont know what the specs are on 420 Chain.
