Default How to choose a 930 CV joint

I've begun looking for 930 CV's and see there is a large range of prices and options.

Housing: Lightened, polished, race prepped
Cage: Chromoloy, loose fit
Star: polished
Balls: .875, .874, .873

I'm sure there are more options, but these are what I have seen.

I was wondering if people would like to share what they are using, what type of success they have had with them, and where they purchased.

Some other questions:

Is there a supplier selling knock offs that should be avoided?

Is there a miminum feature set that should be used for a buggy of given size and horsepower (say 1000#s and 180 Hp)?

Are all boots created equal or is there something that stands out?

What is your preferred grease?

Anything that I have missed?

I was thinking that this could be a thread to collect and summarize all the knowledge this user base has on CV's.

The lighten housings that look like they are finned. GKN only.

Race prep housing/cage/star myself.

Fortin cromo cages.

Standard balls.

Swepco/Bel-ray antisieze mix for lube. Wear hazmat suit........

What they will stand up to depends on what you are doing and who is driving. Race pace with an fast driver under 200HP. Play car in the dunes 350HP max. Vehicle set-up has a lot to do with this also, the more angle you run the less they will last.

I am currious about the same thing. I have heard that the common 930s~25* of movement

Something like 27* raceprepped
I'm far from postitive more like asking asking what's right.

What CV offers the most angle? I have heard of 40* somewhere or is that a dream.

I have run 930's up to 28* on light low powered cars.

Non plunging CV's will go 40* The F-150 units that I have will go 45*. With more angle comes more heat which must be taken into consideration.

I have never really looked into 930 non-plunging cv's

Is there zero plunge, or very limited, 1/8" or so.

Here is a link to some I just found
https://www.rcvperformance.com/store...d=66&osCsid=81

quite a bit more $$ than regular 930's

Do they have the same dimensions & bolt pattern?

The star does not plunge at all in the housing. You can get some plunge out of the splines in the star, but if you looking for more than about 1/4" per side then forget it.

The GKN NP CV's that I got had thinner housings than the regular ones. Other than that they were dimensionally the same. I believe the RCV ones have the same thickness housings.

Good info, Thanks

We have less than 3/16 total plunge in our dual a arm set up, so these would work well.

I may try them on one of the next builds.

97-03 is the same spline as a 930. 04 and up are the same but have the vac-lock hub assembly's.
