The radius looks small. If you switch to bolts with smaller heads, you can make the flange thicker with the bolt heads recessed. Then there will be a smaller distance from the flange surface to the clutch.

I got my new adapters from Gary at Microbelmont. Wow!! what a difference in machine work and structure. I like to hear the resonance of parts and see how that relates to strength. These emit a very high pitch tight sound barely audible. Where as the other ones chimed very loud and short. I dunno. I went and tried the car on the track that I want to race on the 8th of nov. and "tested" the new part. My idea of testing something on my car is to drive the living snot out of it and see what breaks. The adapter held up great to 4 laps of serious abuse with multiple jumps and tons of banks. I stopped to give the car a once over before really going for it and noticed that the copilot tire looked bent in. Upon further investigation we discovered a bent combo stub. I guess I hit some of the corners a little to hard. I had the same issue with the drivers side stub last month. So now we ordered some new 2" hollow stubs and hubs to "upgrade" the area. I am very hopeful that my clutch adapter problems are behind me. Now lets see if I can get these parts into another country and shipped to me by next Mon. so that we can modify the uprights. Speaking of uprights. What would I need to do to my A arms to use a off the shelf upright. I have seen several available but the overall height and angle is slightly different. Would it be as simple as attaching the lower arm "as is" and then modify the upper to work out the proper arc. Or am I way off.
sorry I'm rambling

Gary does good work. The large radius is one important improvement.

The frequency really does not tell you anything in relation to strength per se. All dimensions and material being equal, the higher pitch sound comes from the material with a higher hardness. Steel heat treated too hard for the application becomes brittle and not tough.

Soft materials have lower pitch sounds. If this part was made from A-2 tool steel and heat treated to 62 HRc, it would have a very high pitched sound, but it would be brittle as glass with no strength for this application.

The large radius is a nice improvement, but the sharp corners on the bottom of the counterbores for the bolt heads also induces many stress risers. If the counterbores were larger in diameter and they had a radius in the bottom, this would reduce stress in this area and still clear the bolt heads.

That one has to go down in the MBN Great Lines Hall of Fame.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yeah i am by no means a mechanical engineer. Just making some observations. I think the original piece from Neil could have suffered from over hardening. Not sure though. I sent him what was left of the them so he could have them checked out.
Looks like my spuds and new hubs will be here Mon.
There will be no time to test again at the track. That should be fine just need to adjust my brake balance for the larger calipers going on in front.
