Default Re: CVT Driven clutch install help!!!

jwcarguy,

That brake caliper is one Dan from RPM makes and came with my transmission. No that brake is not enough to stop the car, I have the stock Pilot caliper and disc mounted on the 930 cup for my main brakes. What I did is hook up the emergency brake lever to actuate a master cylinder that goes to the small caliper. Now it serves as a emergency brake and a transmission brake for stopping the gears from moving when shifting into gear.

Jay from Desert Dog mounts a small alt. on the splined end where the small caliper goes and also has his trans tilt back and forth. Maybe K-fab can elaborate as AZ is a bit far from AK for me to have seen his setup.

Any recomenndations for a new rear brake setup?

I have 1310 u-joints, not cv's and at the rear wheels it is a fixed bearing housing welded to the lower (only) a-arm.
Could I modify something to attach or "ride" on the output shaft, similar to your setup?
I bought the new output shaft from Dan @ RPM to work with the original 1310u-joints on the Triple EEE. He said that he used to sell alot of them when changing out parts in the Triple E's.
Maybe he would know?

What do you think?

The brakes have me worried now?

jwcarguy,

On my setup I took apart the RPM trans and welded a ear to the Flat plate of the trans. On that ear I have mounted the stock Pilot rear caliper so now as the trans tilts the caliper moves with the it. The brake rotor is mounted to an adapter that weldes to the inside of the 930 cup. Here is the best pictures I have right now.

You could switch to outboard brakes.

That's weird - I posted this morning with pix of the dual inboard setup I had and also mentioned that you should probably look at outboard brakes. Now that post is gone.

Stay away from that tiny thing unless you want to use it as a parking brake. It'll fry very quickly.

Take a look at Standfast's alternator setup. I think it's on the second to last or last page of his Zehn build.

Livewire, K-Fab,
Talk to me about these outboard brakes??

Steve, you might need a larger box to ship the wheels and tires and now brakes too!
Did you come up with a figure ?

I am sure that you guys know exactly what setup I currently have with the wheel hub and bearing carrier, but here is a picture anyways.

I defintely want to stop this thing!!

K-fab, where do I get a Team driven clutch now,and calibrated, after reading your post about possibly blowing up the Arctic Cat if I use that? ( it has been on that same TazCar since it was built) and the orginal owner "drive hard" alot. I am on a very tight budget, like evryone nowadays. So if I can "get away with" running the exsisting AC driven, that would be great?

Thanks guys!!

I think you are gonna break your axles after you get this together.

Don't know about the axles, but the cat driven can give you some problems if the secondary spring is not stiff enough. I had the movable sheeve hitting the towers so bad it sounded like a hammer hitting the roll cage down by the motor. I have since stopped it by going to a stiffer spring and steeper helis and winding it to the 5th hole. So far it has survived for three years, but I'm not on a motorcycle track jumping all the time. I only noticed it when I jumped and the wheels left the ground. I do however plan on going to a Team when the cat clutch finally lets go. But in the mean time tune the clutch with the cheaper helix's of the cat because the team are expensive. Get a base line for your clutching before you order the team IMO.
