Thats the thing I am curious about. What's the point of lubing the chain if you can't get it past the o-rings? Keeps the o-rings soft? Less friction with the sprocket?

If the lube dont make it to the pins, i supose it would still keep the chain temp down somewhat. it does make a mess, but better to have a mess at the end of the race, than to not finished due to chain failure. A fan is not going to blow past the orings either. Maybee fill the luber with water or some other coolant. Just been looking on ebay, and thay now do electronic ones that spray onto the chain @ 50psi.

Is there any difference in strenth on a non o-ring chain, it seems like they have as many cons as pros.

IMO a non o ring chain would handle the heat much better, they have tighter tolerances as well once the o ring chain spits the o rings out...

The thing is, it's only killing o-rings at the master link. The rest of the chain is fine. A non o-ring chain isn't gonna have any lube left in it on my car within the first hour of a race.

I use chain lube now because before I started using it I was wearing the sprocket teeth severely.

Since I don't have any sprocket wear and also the chain outer barrels don't get as sloppy

This stuff I use goes on as a thick foam and dissipates and dries to a non sticky wax lube that the sand does not stick to at all

Skyler, any luck yet with a chain manufacturer making a one-piece chain? To prove the heat on an O-ring or non O-ring single piece chain would be interesting.

You'd think a chain manufacturer would be happy to get involved with this issue.

The chains come to the US from japan in huge 50' rolls. Probably not gonna get a single length chain. There aren't any US chain manuf. that make 630 chains. I am gonna order a 630 x-ring chain and give that a shot. It is on the yellow sinister car that I worked on and seems to be doing OK but it isn't driven quite as hard so it's hard to say. It has a rivet link. I need to really try to assemble it with as much lube as possible and pay attention to the final riveted width of the links to try to match it perfectly with the rest of the chain to make sure I am not pinching the rings excessively. Thats all I can come up with at this point.
