That brace is gonna be like .049 -.065. It is gonna crumple/buckle in heavy impact. I want to avoid destroying the front suspenion in a heavy impact. The section it intersects into is braced pretty heavily. It will take the load and the crumpling brace will hopefully absorb the energy. Halfway up the vertical tubes to the bumper(after the suspension tubes) I will sleeve it and switch to thinner tube there. My idea is to try to keep the impact off the front suspension members as much as possible. I may even put a slight bend in that top support to create a weakened point for it to buckle at and push outward away from the shocks. I am glad you brought that up though. I saw cars this past weekend just bend the hell out of front ends because their bumpers were tied directly to front suspension tubes.

Another reason to use mild tube for the bumpers. At least you didn't have to learn this the hard way.......

Yeah the bumper and it's support tubes will be mild steel.

Standfast, I know you want to race this car. Might consider checking the dia. on the main cage - might be a little light to pass tech? CORR rule book here....

Cockpit tube size/thickness discussion

Looks like on the main cage it would need .120 wall, not just the lower bars. Just something to think about.

Nice job Standfast,i like your analytical approach to designing stuff.
Thanks for all the cad files also.
My only comment, and i could be totally wrong, but shouldn't the "A" pillar tube intersect the roof and windshield at the center of the radius?I remember hearing this somewhere and it appears this way in the sample page that bdkw1 posted.Think about it, if the frame was impacted at this point,it would try to "lever" on the "A" tube.
Looking forward to seeing it built.

I am sorry, I meant wall thickness. I know you do the numbers with the best of them, I am sure you have it all figured out, so I will go back to my popcorn now.

Thanks bull. I think I will actually switch it to the top of the radius.
