My R82 has about 57 inches from the tube behind my seat to the vertical tube in front of the pedals
My other car has about 60 inches from the bar behind the seat to the brake fluid reservoir on my CNC brakes. It's about 50 inches from the bar to the pedal. Right now I can't compress either pedal because the brakes are disconnected and I don't wan't to make a mess. I'm 5'8".. Seating position in both cars allows for some comfortably bent knees. Having your legs straight really sucks. |

Thanks,
Currently the bar behind the seat to the bar ahead of the pedals is @ 52". I am 5'8" as well, when seated against a wall in the seat, legs comfortable, this seems right. My suspension arms come into the center just ahead of that. I'd like to accomidate the 6' for my brothers and friends. 57 seems long, I guess I'm concerned about weight position and any advantage of positioning myself more forward. I'll play with the changes though and see. Thanks |

My car is 52 inches from the back seat bolt to the front of my cars, back of the brake reservoir.
I am 6' 1" but these are a hair close for me but my wife who is 5' 7" and all legs is the driver so she likes it there. I can go as far as 57 inches in my cab. Weight is up to you and how you want your car to handle and where you like to drive etc. Plus tires, solid axle or independent etc. has a lot to do with weight. A lot of cars are roughly 60% weight in rear and 40% in front... takes stress, wear and tear off your smaller lighter front end and helps with breakage etc. Front ends are lighter and smaller than back ends. So a 60/40 has been a real good weight. A true 50/50 is starting to be more common on mid engines with bigger front ends and race cars etc that are building up their front ends. The car handles differently under different weights. If your front is lighter and you have a spool you will loose the ability to turn as sharp under power in a turn. Your turning is off and the way the car feels when you make corrections if your front is lighter compared to a heavier front end that will stick and hold better. Shorter wheel base cars are also less affected as they already turn sharp do to smaller wheel base so this actually helps them to be a little lighter so they do not grab and turn so hard and cause you to get yourself in trouble. Open diffs will act differently again to weight. Anyways this is all the stuff I have learned and seen in my years. Most sand cars are lighter on the front, rides over stuff better, allows you to build smaller on your front end and keep your buggy lighter and then just build a little bigger back which you already will be doing to mount the motor, tank etc. So me personally I like a lighter front end on a buggy as I am used to and like how the front can ride over stuff, catch jumps, bumps, drop offs easier and I does not cause damage or break my front ends with more of the weight in the rear. I know some very, very light weight sand cars that are like 70/30... you need turn brakes just to turn them but their fronts are super light and they really skip over stuff in the sand. They run small sand tires and light weight front ends and they like it. Most of them can pull wheelies in first gear at full throttle and when duneing if they come to a drop off etc they can punch it and lift the front end so they do not nose dive into the drop. Much like a dirt bike. So works for them and only running in sand. I like 60/40.. Talk to others and see what others say and like. See what you like. Set up for where you run, wheel base, etc. also. Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Send me the pic if you want and I will put it up. ![]() Tutcote@yahoo.com |
