I decided to park it and just be a spectator for the rest of the afternoon. When the drags were over, we cruised back to camp and the water temp went from 190 slowly up to 225, just cruising. We let it sit overnight, and in the morning, I took it for a mild ride and the temp was again around 180 for the whole ride. Is it normal for these things to get that hot periodically? How much temp will these things tolerate safely? A buddy of mine said that racing fuel will burn hotter, is this true? Sorry for all tha dumb questions, I am still learning about these things.

Racing fuel will burn cooler. My 750 will tolerate up to 230 I believe. It runs around 200-205 it you keep on it.

Do you have a fan? Mine will get hot if you put around without airflow, until the fan kicks in.

Most water cooled engines are fine at that temperature as long as the water doesn't boil out.
Hopefully that made sense, i've got a cold so my thought process is a little screwed up.

Nothing over 230. I would consider maybe a larger radiator with a high cfm fan. Also check your cooling system make sure you have good flow (nothings cloged and your water pumps working properly)and clean fluid.
