I'm on the down low mounting side of this. Out at glamis a few years ago, there was a guy with a mid-engine V8 rail bombing the hill. The radiator was mounted directly behind there heads. when he parked the car it started to boil over and the upper hose poped off hoseing his girl down. In her panic she couldn't get the belts off. If you would have ever heard someone scream like that you would have some different thoughts on the mounting place too.

I have a breather at the neck of the radiator, when my radiator did overheat last year when mounted down and low, it started puking antifreez out the neck and down the hose routed below the car. *I lost a lot of fluid a few times, but having the vent hose on the neck prevented the pressure from possibly popping off a hose. *Regaedless, the radiator was mounted behind the passenger seat and if the hose were to come off, it would blow right between the seats and hit the occupants....

BINGO!!!!!!Thanks for your support.IMO it's just common sense.Ever see anyone on fire?????I have and would not wish that on anyone.I have a friend that was scarred severly for life by being scalded with water around the head and neck a few years ago.Only took a few seconds for him to need skin grafts and many months rehab.BTW hot scalding water will burn deeper and quicker than fire itself will in the short term exposure.I kinda like the way I look now without any scarring.

Really simple like using chromoly tubing since mild steel is so weak, and even though the most builders use mild steel, I should use chromo? *You make it sound like anyone who mounts the radiator up high is gonna get hosed and common sense says to mount it otherwise. *Facts are, if you have good fittings, if you use good line, *have a breather/overflow, and if you've got a temp light that pops on if the thing does start to overheat, your fine. *It's not a black and white case, installed improperly and yes, it can be trouble, same thing goes for anything in your rail. *Your less likely to overheat if you mount it high in the airflow, mount it low and it can overheat quicker, and if the hose happens pops off, what makes you think your not in harms way. *The fluid could hit you almost anywhere you mount it, it's only unsafe when done improperly......

Blocks the air flow too. Might as well move it down and put a scoop on it.

You think a fire wall will keep a 3 foot long hose from spraying into the cockpit if it came loose? Tell you what, go disconnect the hose on your rail and see if you could manually aim it at the cockpit. If you can do it, then the hose can definatly do it and with enough pressure it would have no problem shooting a 6 foot spray pattern and you are no better off with your "proper mounting of the radiator" Mounting low doesn't protect you if a hose comes off. Secure the hose properly and allow a vent and it will never be an issue. It also helps to run good hoses and possibly change them every season or 2.

Did you get hosed lately?Seems to be all that's on your mind. There is a radiator core, radiator end tanks and hoses. Each of which can and have *failed .Why take the chance when it is a fact that some people have been hurt with the radiator placed within inches of the head and neck area. BTW what idiot have you seen install a radiator hose without clamps???????I have never had a hose come off and it's not likely to happen.Failure of even a new hose/radiator can and does happen though.BTW there's not a single hose on my car that if failed would let anything spray on me.I planned it that way on purpose.Safety first is the best practice. Now if you can say with a straight face that the radiator is safely placed for the occupants where you have it then so be it but you will not be able to convince me of it.
