Default Which rack and pinion

I'm building a 2 seater short sand car and was wondering which rack and pinion you guys would recommend. I ordered a 14inch buggy rack from Dan's Performance and it just looks extremely small and weak so i'm sending it back.

Do you need a center steer rack or do you need a rack that the tie rods attach to out on the ends?

If you need a center steer rack, I have a Howe unit that I'll let go. It has about 100 miles or so on it.

I really don't know which rack i need. I was thinking about one where i could use heim joints instead of tie rod ends. How do i tell which rack i need?

The center steer units seem like they would be quite a bit stronger but i'm not sure.

As a general rule*, rack spacing depends on the suspension setup.

If your front a-arms front mounts are close together at the nose of the car, then you need the spacing like on the rack in the pic.

If your a-arms are on each side of the car and don't come anywhere near each other (think quad front end), then you need a wide mount setup.

* yea, yea, it's a blanket statement!

After reading some other posts and looking at the few pictures that i have found. The 14 inch rack that i ordered for my SSC seems to be the one everyone is using.
