I was at the local bike shop picking up some goodies for an oddy 350 my Brother in *law bought, and asked the guy about cables, he can get the stuff I need, but in quantity, have to buy 10 packs of the ends and the cable was 100' or 96" the casing was in 50' or short, so basicly there longest smaller length was to short for my app. i need about 120" for the throttle.... prices were not to bad, but surely i can source online cheaper.....If the guy wasnt so snobby because i dont look like yoshi and have hundreds hanging from my pocket, then i would just buy from him....I dont take a liking to salesman that right me off because I look like a real working man.....
Anyhow, what size cable do you guys recomend, rowyco and rorty this question is specificly pointed in your guys direction....Seems like the cable sized from 1mm-2.5 mm, i would prefer to use the same size cable for everything, clutch, gas and shifter, as i am going to run 2 cables for the shifter, if i have to buy the bulk amounts....If i can find lengths of material that meet my budget, then I will run a morse type cable for the shifter....

Amazon.com
search "cable housings" *Lots of bulk cable & sheaths to choose from. *At 120" you're just a bit too long to use a tandem bike shifter cable (110")...too bad. I've never tried applying a ball of aluminum to the cable end. *Does it actually fuse with the steel or is it more a mechanical bond? *Do you blob it on & shape it or is there a mold to use? *As a bowhunter I always wanted to look into how the ends are attached to a compound cable. *Talk about strong...! I've had reasonable success getting a small ball on the cable by tapping it with the mig. *The bigger ends I just use those brass throttle ends with pinch screw. *Are those not a good idea?

Use 7x7 cable for throttle cables and 1x9 for brake and clutch cables. The more strands, the more flexible the cable, but at the cost of strength. |

Stainless will last a lot longer than galvanized wire. Any water near you? Ships chandlers usually stock the stainless variety and it's a lot cheaper than you'll pay for it at a bike shop.
