Took it apart and used RTV Silicone Gasket Maker to permanently keep the tip sensor in the right place. You just have to be sure its right where it needs to be. I believe you can put a resistor in in its place, as an alternative.

My guess is that it's in the line that goes directly to the ECU. Doesn't make sense for it to go anywhere else.
I seem to sort of recall using a resistor somewhere when I did the harness, but where and what? No clue.
