Default brake caliper location

sorry to ask this question but to tired to think about it anymore, I know that brakes mounted at wheels will induce torque when applied, most are mounted towards rear, what adverse effects does it have if mounted at wheels but towards front of vehicle? does it still have the same torque effect? ill try to get some pics later if that will help, need to take a nap! brb and thanks

The twisting will be the same no matter where the caliper is placed on the hub. Its simply a force applied to the whole hub.

This does bind the suspension some. Some people like inboard brakes cause even on the brakes the suspension moves more freely.

I believe the reason monster trucks mount them on the diff input is because the tires are so large an have a lot of leverage against the hubs. So they want the brakes before the diff gear reduction. A down side I see is that if one tire has poor traction, no braking force will be applied to the other wheel either. I personally would not want a single brake on a system with a differential. It doesn't take much to put outer disk brakes on solid axle. Just use rotors from a car that have the same bolt pattern and slip over the studs.

Mounting calipers behind the wheels (towards center of vehicle) helps reduce polar moment of inertia (resistance to turning). Not much but every little bit counts.

I see them mounted on the back a lot of times simply cause there is not enough room on the front side due to the suspension hooking there on trailing arms and even five links. On the backside the room allows a tab to be added for the caliper mount and as long as the bleeder zerk is up your good. Some designs DO have the room on the front. Depnds on how the parts fit and what you make really.

I am not a fan of the mounting the bleeder down and removing the caliper and flipping it over to bleed them then reinstalling. Point it up and put a cap on it! :]

im not running a solid axle, I want a IRS to go with my IFS
and im gonna have front discs so if I break and axle the front brakes are still gonna work, they are the more important brakes anyway.
i only want the do it on the diff because i want a e-brake on it as well so I can park it running., plus it should be cheaper to just make it since im getting the brakes with the mtoor
