Default 2005 Hayabusa in a Barracuda - Won't start

Hello,

My first post here. My daughter and I are building a Edge Barracuda. You can see a bunch of pictures here Samantha's Cuda Build

Anyways..... Today is the day we planned on starting it for the first time and nothing

It cranks but the fuel pump doesn't run and it appears there's no spark. It's a 2005 Hayabusa.

We used the entire harness from the 2005 Busa as well as the ignition switch and instrument panel. We're running the factory tip over sensor and we've already wired in the 64k resistor for the side stand switch. The fuel pump will run if I "hot wire" it so I know it's good and functioning. I also vented the fuel line after running the fuel pump and it let pressure out so I know it want's to send fuel to the injectors but they're obviously not opening. The coil packs have power. The fuel pump gets a tiny spike (~2 volts) when the key is turned on. It cranks hard and strong but it doesn't start. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Lance & Samantha

The side stand switch doesnt need a 64k ohm resistor. It gets bypassed or jumpered and if I remember right its jumpered. I would have to look at a schematic to verify either way it doesnt need the 64k ohm resistor.

Well I can fix that easy enough ! Thanks

Would an "open" on that circuit stop the ecu from starting the fuel pump and the injectors?

Just jumpered around the resistor. Still no fuel pump

This probably won't solve your problem, but I would not bypass the side stand switch. Some bikes have diagnostic capabilities built into the system.
To run diagnostics using the original cluster you need to have the side stand down. I'd wire a toggle switch in place of the side stand switch.
This way you can still use this feature. On Honda's you also have to short the system to reset the diagnostics. I run a toggle switch for the short circuit also. Not sure if Suzuki's are set up this way.

How do I read the diagnostics/codes on a motorcycle? I'm getting a "check" signal on the dash. I'm very familiar with automobiles and OBDII readers is there something similar for motorcycles?

You need the Suzuki service manual for your motor.
For Honda motors the codes are in the fuel system section of the manual.
On a Honda the side stand must be down to check the codes.
In the manual there should be instructions that walk you through the procedure. And a chart that tells you how to read the blinks. Honda's also have a service check connector. You short this connector with a jumper wire to reset the diagnostic sysyem. I'm guessing that Suzuki does the same.

Actually I found this for putting it in dealer mode to read the codes. Steve's GSXR pages - Dealer Mode

Looks like it's similar to the Honda. I install a switch like he shows, and another for the side stand. I don't put these on the dash though. I put them on or inside the box that houses the ecu. Do you have the service manual?

Yes, I have the service manual. It tells you what the codes are for different things but not how to check them. I tried jumpering the "mode" connector but get no codes. Nothing changes on the dash.
