Smile Re: Ackerman Question...advice

Thanks all,

After a 'lil more brain-fry, I succumbed to a whole front end re-design , but, by the looks of it, it'll solve many issues I had in the prior design. I'm stoked about that, as well as good steering geometry now! Take a glance and tell me what you think. On that note, it's got about a 20.5' turning radius as it's designed now...what do you guys think is a good number to shoot for in that department? Keep in mind, it is a "kid" buggy that sees duty on the "city" streets. Let me know guys, and thanks again.

Chris

Looks good from here. How about another shot looking down with wheels straight so we can see Ackerman.

Not what I was expecting. Tie rod location has changed and so the Ackerman line gets drawn from the front of the car. You did move tie rods to rear steer, right?

Your rear line should go straight out so you currently have a bit more than full Ackermann.

Looks like if he turned steering more the meet point will line up closer to a straight out line from the rear.

Theoretical perfect Ackermann would have them meet at any angle. The lines would be shorter the more you turned. Real world, you can get perfect at all angles. I set mine up at full lock being my concern was be able to turn as sharp as possible at full lock.
