Default Hydaulic Clutch : R1 Need Help

ok. try to keep it simple.

Running cnc brakes 3/4' master cylinder with their slave cylinder on a 2005 r1.

With about 3-4" of pedal movement i only get about 7/16" throw at the slave which is not enough to engage the clutch. If i remove my floorboard i am able to get the full swing out of the pedal which is probably closer to 8". At this point the slave pulls about 1" and the clutch will engage properly.

How can i make it so the slave cylinder pulls 1" but the pedal only requires 3-4" of travel? Larger master?

Everyone keeps saying even the 3/4" will overthrow the clutch (w/o a stop), and i need smaller master but i am having the exact oposite problem.

I have moved the pivit point on the engines clutch arm so it is about 1/8" closer to the centerline, i have preloaded the arm approx 1/4" and i have the pedal as high as the clevis will allow.

I'm pretty certain we do not have any airbubbles in the system, but it just seems like nothing happens for the first half of the pedal stroke, then the second half it pulls the full range at the slave cylinder.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Change the length of the arm on the clutch to work with what you have got. The closer to the pivot the hole is the less movement you need.

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder.

I used about 1" of pedal throw on my R1 clutch with cnc pedals. Just be careful you dont move it too much or it will pull the geared shaft out of the clutch and you will need to tear the clutch apart to fix. Not hard just a pain in the butt to do. You may have already done this and its why the clutch wont disengage. the shaft moves but the shaft has been pulled past the gears it meshes with and now it will not pull the clutch plates apart.

Think he meant BENCH bleed. You need to re-circulate the fluid in a fresh master cylinder to get all of the air out of the piston assembly. You do this by running a tube from the fitting, that goes to the brakes, back into the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with fluid and pump the piston until all air has escaped.

I don't think anyone asked, but what size of slave cylinder are you using? It looks big from the pictures.

Looks like a VW billit slave. You may have to see what length clutch arm the slave was designed for and copy that.

I used the same slave on my r1 as you did and it worked fine. Check to see if you can get the clutch to disengage at all with the slave. If so you and you just need more pedal throw you can adjust the clevis on the pedal that pushes the pedal out from the mc giving you more travel before the floor. You can also clock the clutch arm on the trans to help a little.
