I got a care package from Rick this week with the steering rack and associated parts..(sorry for the crappy pic, but Rick packs the goods really well- there's a steering rack and tie rads and column/mounts/bearings plus a few chassis plates in there).

..that allowed me to line up the nose section and tack it..

I'm starting to think I might borrow a Mig for the harder to reach parts.

Meanwhile I've made a load of tap plates

And drilled the lower frame rails to weld them in place. Ive been converting AF/Imperial taps to metric as I go, but it seems the good seatbelt fittings are still AF/Imperial

Here's where I veer from the script a little.

6 months ago I was going to build a Piranha. I got to the stage that I bought a chassis kit from Edge, I'd made the rear arms, bought front hubs/brakes and I'd got a local fabricator to make me the main rollbar 80mm wider at the hip and 50mm wider at the base than a Piranha rollbar. But then I got to emailing Doug Heim for parts...who put me onto Rick...who introduced me to a better way to travel in a buggy.

So I have this rollbar in 1 1/2" Dom that I plan to use.

It's about 2' narrower at the hip than the AR51 specs, so I'll gusset it to the upper frame rail instead of notching it in. I'm also thinking I'll make the front rollbar and top and rear tubes out of the same 1 1/2 tubing.

I also ordered a Tube bender with the degree wheel and 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 dies today-

I've already got a backlog of jobs from three of my neighbours

Yeah it's a bit of fun. CBR600RRRR motor in a Zip Superkart frame with R1 brakes. It was a bit too low and flexible at first, but I welded in a second frame rail and it's sweet-

Anywho, spent the afternoon sorting out the factory and mounting the bender- don't they take some room.

Still waiting for the dom tube to be available so I'll get some more welding done tomorrow.
