The star does not plunge at all in the housing. You can get some plunge out of the splines in the star, but if you looking for more than about 1/4" per side then forget it.

The GKN NP CV's that I got had thinner housings than the regular ones. Other than that they were dimensionally the same. I believe the RCV ones have the same thickness housings.
