No, you do not need a longer spring. You need a spacer inside the shock so it can't over extend for the geometry of the back of your car.
All you've done is lower the ride height (which is good!). You've done absolutely nothing in relation to the max droop.
A longer spring will just raise your ride height, change the spring's rate as it compresses (compared to the spring(s) on the car) and not do squat for full droop issues.
Stick with what you have, get the max droop set up so that it doesn't bind the CVs and then work from there.
You're on the right track, just not doing it correctly yet. It's all good too, as you said right off the bat that this is all new to you. There's an amazing amount to learn when it comes to suspensions.
