You must change your oil more and probably take better care of yours. Then again maybe he just drives short trips and his engine doesn't get all the condensation out of his oil.Either way octane of the gas has nothing to do with how dirty the inside of an engine gets.Now days the cars computer can detect engine knock/detenation and retard the timeing which means less power and less gas mileage, so it's best to not let that happen.I believe,every now and then add some higher octane gas to the tank therefor raising the octane of the mixture and possible keeping engine knock/timeing retard, insuring a good running engine...
